I'd have to say better. I really loved it! The Helm's Deep battle was great, and the friendship between Gimli, Aragorn, and Legolas was wonderful.

Yes, I was the one who said they were the same ^^;; I have a good reason though-well at least to me. I feel both were great in there own respective ways. Each had its wonderful moments, capturing me greatly in sight, sound, and voice. ^^;;

Basically, I could not choose which one is better; to me they are both equal. (Watch this opinion change when I go to see it again with other friends ^^;

lol! It was I that upset the balancewink

I just saw it and came out of this one with far more of the wow factor still making me think about what I'd seen and mulling over aspects.

Maybe it's because I identify with the characters in this one more. The humans. With their weaknesses and misunderstandings and not to mention their down to earthness. they get dirty and have to deal with a short life..

Not to mention Eowyn was my fav character int he book and I found myself really admiring the way Miranda brought her to lifesmiley

Is my reviewsmiley No doubt I'll be adding more as I think about it, but that's the first thing I wrote when I got home. BTW the links in bold for those not familiar with lj, take you to the full text. So you'll see all those spoilers, not just onesmiley

This was a really tough decision for me, but I finally gave in and voted for TTT being better. I almost voted with AngelicMaiden, but the special effects and Gollum push this one over the top. Story-wise, I was happier with FOTR; TTT just has a few too many departures. Of course, for excitement and riveting moments, I also have to give it up to TTT.

I voted for them being the same smiley I think both the films are equally good, although their strengths might lie in different areas. And I also kinda see TTT as being the same film as FotR, an extension of it. So I can't really compare them and say that one is better than the other smiley

I voted other for several reasons....
I thought FOTR was a better "stand-alone" movie. if they never made another one afterwords it still stands as a film on it's own. TTT doesn't, it clearly is a sequal.
As an acurate protrait of the book, i thought FOTR was better. It displayed more acuracy towards the storyline and the parts left out didn't hurt the story one bit.

In TTT, they should have just ended it like the book does. I've heard they didn't because of the phyical dates given in the appendicies, but i think that's crap. also the whole Faramir and taking the hobbits to Osgiliath, Doesn't happen! i know, it's supposed to show the ring's effect on Faramir and that heartfelt scene with sam and frodo at the end of the film (which bings me to tears every time i watch it!) but that happens around the Shelob sequence in the book and has the same effect on me there too.

the elves helping out the Rohan, that's great i though, because it does happen in the book, just in a different place.

the whole aragorn falling and the warg sequence...that was kind a waste of time...i do see that it's probably the the place to have some action, considering there is a lot of travelling in the book and the story needed some action at that point in the movie. i thought the sequence was pretty kick ass though.

But...what's really good in TTT is the Rohan, the Orcs and the Ents (my personal favorite characters) that stuff is all brilliant! and, i've heard that the Extended DVD will have more Ent stuff as well as Flostam and Jetsom, also a great scene from the book.

my point is...they're both good for thier own reasons but i thought FOTR was slightly better from an acuracy and stand-alone point of view.

now, a lot of people on this forum have said they look at the books and films as separate entities...
my response to that is, "how could you". if you've read all the interviews, seen all the DVD's (including comentaries with the film) and heard anything about the making of the films you have to be a little p/o'd about how they changed so much of TTT.

They state over and over and over and over agian that they are trying to make the movie as "Tolkien's Film", his vision of the movie. They keep saying how the sets, the models, the clothes are all to the extacting description that are present in the books and writings but they take some very big liberties in this film that i'm not sure i understand all of them but the big ones don't do the books or tolkien justice...

i guess i'll have to wait for the Extended cut to get this all explained though...

hope no one thinks i'm being too picky, i'm just trying to justify to myself what PJ was thinking there....

greener pastures...
