I notice I'm the second 5 smiley

I completely enjoyed it which very much surprised me. Just finished reading it yesterday (first time, bad me!). Although I've always loved fantasy movies/tv I've always liked my books to be a little more realistic. I didn't want to wait a year to see what happened though, so gave the book a chance. I'm so happy I did.

Funny though, my fantasy loving friend can't even get through the first book. She doesn't like Tolkein's writing style...

I loved the plot line, the depth of history, the elves ^.~, and just everything about it. ^_^ I really enjoyed it. I remember reading the book when I was little, but It wasn't until the end of highschool that I appreciated it better then before. It also didn't help that I adore fantasy. ^_^

Don't worry about just finishing it, Koshka. ^^ I am reading it to my fiance and it's his first time hearing it (I read it over the phone since he's in Colorado) . Unfortunetly, he dislikes hobbits so the beginning chapters were hard for him to sit through ^^;

Each time I read the books I love them more. There is so much depth, so much to discover. I can see how people might get bogged down in Tolkien's densely descriptive style, but I at least found it more fluid and more bareable than Dickens. I also loved how the whole novel is set in a "historical" background; Middle-earth may not be real, but it was complete--with its own languages, geography, and history. This fact is glaringly apparent in LOTR, and adds to the novel's epic feel.

I completely agree with you, Ithilwyn. I love the fact Middle-Earth is a complete world dealing with languages, people, lands, history, mythology, etc. and how it was very apparent in in the FellowShip of the Ring.

my thoughts keep lingering here and there, i responded to the other two polls before this one and i think that my 5 for all three is still valid. it's one book and that's my reasoning.

Although...hobbits are probably my favorite of all tolkien's characters (and the Ents), they seem more human than the humans do, in my opinion. so maybe FOTR is my favorite. i just love the humor, the rumors the family feuds, the shire! i think orlando bloom said in an interview, "isn't this a place where everyone wished they could have grown up in?".

i guess you wouldn've guessed i'm an evrironmentalist?
ya think?!

greener pastures!
